The Equality Act – October 2010 All the current discrimination laws are to be contained in one single act. The Act is to include: · measures requiring transparency on pay and scope for positive discrimination. · favouring people from under-represented groups in promotions and appointments. · protection from discrimination for being associated with someone with a protected characteristic e.g. disability. National Minimum Wage Increases due in October 2010. The details are as follows: The NMW rates will be as follows: - Aged 21 and over £5.93
- Aged 18 to 21 years £4.92
- Aged 16 & 17 years £3.64
2011 and beyond Extra Bank Holiday Day – 5 June 2012 To celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee. Agency Workers – October 2011 After 12 weeks in an assignment an agency worker will be entitled to the same salary, overtime, commission, rest breaks and holiday entitlement as if they had been recruited by the company that employed them. Retirement Age due to be abolished Despite the Heyday ruling the government is likely to raise or abolish the retirement age of 65 during 2011.
